“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” what would a truly integrated spirituality look like, a way of life that supported all of our being, even as it challenged us to live from a place of greater wholeness? What better time to explore a fuller way of being than during Lent when we’re invited to take a break from our “business as usual” – even from our faith-as-usual – and go a little deeper.
We’d love to have you join us for this one-night “mini-retreat,” which minimizes your time away while offering you a real change of pace.
Facilitated by the Rev. Whitney Roberson, priest, writer and experienced retreat leader, Body and Soul offers an opportunity to recognize the presence of divine Mystery in your life, to listen for the whisperings of your own deepest self, and to explore new ways of living and being in the world. Along the way, we’ll get to know each other, share our joys and sorrows, questions and insights, hopes and fears. And we’ll laugh a lot!
Friday, March 23 to
Sunday, March 25, 2012
Fee: $355 double occupancy

The collage is then covered with hot encaustic medium (a mixture of resin and beeswax). Includes demos of techniques and lots of time to play and experiment. All materials are included and no prior experience is needed. Friday evening begins with dinner followed by a quiet evening for you to relax and settle in. Saturday studio time will be from 9:30-4 with a break for a delicious Ranch made lunch. After 4pm there’s time for a hike or relaxing before a 6pm social, then off to another great Ranch dinner. The evening will be left to you, to read, relax and wander or return to the art center to explore on your own. Sunday morning we will resume our creative pursuits, there will be a post-lunch sharing circle, then clean up and pack up by 3pm.

Spring is a wonderful time to explore the 343 acres of The Bishop’s Ranch. Situated on rugged terraces above the Russian River, the Ranch lies between the wetter conifer forests to the west and north and the heavily cultivated river floodplain with its remnant riparian forest on the east. Join Sean Swift to explore lesser-known Ranch trails, find out what wildflowers are blooming, achieve spectacular views of the watershed from the hilltops and traverse little known sections of the Ranch trails. Be prepared to walk five miles with some changes in elevation, but the pace will be a rambling one, with time to discuss what we see.
Bring sturdy shoes, water, hat and raingear if necessary. Binoculars and camera might come in handy as well.
Rate Schedule per person single occupancy:

Come away to a place of silence and solitude: an opportunity to enter the mysteries of the week we call holy. There will be worship, meditations, Taize chant, and, for those who are interested, time and space to work with Resident Artist Lisa Thorpe, making small altars, shrines, and odes.
The traditional services of the week, Tenebrae, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday will be offered. And each day: Holy Eucharist, silent meditation, appointments for conversation/guidance and/or the Sacrament of reconciliation, time to walk the grounds of the Ranch, rest and enjoy lovingly prepared meals. Your participation in the offered activities is optional; our purpose is to offer you the space you most need to prepare for Easter.
*The Ranch is able to offer a limited number of Sunday night accommodations (meals will be available as well). You are also invited to join Morning Prayer, Bible study and Eucharist on Monday. Please note: due to other group staying at the Ranch “Silent Days in Holy Week” will not officially begin until Monday afternoon. Please contact Shannon Reilly, Conference Coordinator, at (707)433-2440 ext. 106 or shannon@bishopsranch.org for more information.
Song and Silence - The Music of Hildegard von Bingen
April 13-15, 2012
2 nights/6 meals (Friday dinner – Sunday lunch)
Standard Rate (3-4 per room) $291.00 per person
Double Rate $313.00 per person
Join a circle of voices in singing sacred chant that comes to us from 12th-century Christian mystic Hildegard von Bingen. Hildegard was a visionary, wisdom teacher, composer, singer, author, healer, and spiritual conscience for the patriarchy of her time. Her songs are made of exquisite melodies and inspiring poetic imagery that reach deep into the heart of the singer. Experience her music the way she shared it with the women and men who sang with her — in a restful, spirit-nourishing process of listening and singing together, through the ear to the heart.
Follow the daily pattern of Hildegard’s Benedictine tradition, gathering several times each day to sing together. Hear stories of Hildegard’s life and times and contemplate her visionary imagery. Enjoy plenty of silent time for meditation, reading, writing, drawing, walking, and relaxing. Open to everyone who enjoys singing or has always wanted to sing.
Retreat leader Devi Mathieu has been teaching Hildegard’s music in the medieval oral tradition since 1996. She offers regular evening gatherings that give singers of all levels the opportunity to sing Hildegard’s music as contemplative practice, under the auspices of Numina Center for Spirituality and the Arts. Devi also sings early and contemporary music in the US and Europe, coaches singers of early music, and helps individuals who think or have been told they can’t sing to experience their singing voice.
This spring, there are two opportunities to help improve the environment of the Ranch through hands-on projects. Participants will work with Ranch staff to improve the gardens or work on conservation projects in the woods, depending on the day and the weather. Service Days are held on two Saturdays, 4/14 and 5/5, from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM and include lunch. These days are a great way to spend the day outside, learn new things about the Ranch environment, and meet new friends. Come broaden your knowledge of the Ranch and help create a more harmonious place of renewal for others. Wear work clothes and bring work gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes or boots,
and a water bottle.
